Attention Chicon 7 (Worldcon) 12′: Sci-Fi App Giveaway

by | Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Audiobook Pop! celebrates the opening of Chicon 7, the 70th World Science Fiction Convention, also known as “Worldcon” with a giveaway of Audiobooks – Sci-Fi on August 30 and September 1, 2012.

Audiobook Pop! will make the app free in iTunes. (Android users, please bear with us. We are weeks away from the Android version.)

Audiobooks – Sci-Fi is available in iTunes and has over 30 classic science-fiction audiobooks with authors like H. Beam Piper, Edgar Rice Burroughs and Jules Verne.  There is no cost to download the audiobooks if you buy (or get the giveaway of) the app, the audiobooks are free.

Audiobook Pop! originated with the idea that although public domain audiobooks are a wonderful thing, the fact that they are narrated by volunteers makes them somewhat unreliable.  (No disrespect, volunteers, but [some of] you are no Patrick Stewart.)  We wanted apps with great audiobooks, but we wanted to make sure that the content was listenable.  No matter how great a book is, if the narrator doesn’t work for you, that’s the end of it. What good is a $0.99 app if you have to spend a large amount of time getting to the good stuff?

The books in our app are in the public domain from Librivox.org. They include:
– Niels Klim’s Journey under the Ground
– A Journey to the Interior of the Earth
– Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions
– The British Barbarians
– Thuvia, Maid of Mars
– The Sky Is Falling
– Two Thousand Miles Below
– The Poison Belt
– The Green Odyssey
– The Machine Stops
– D-99

– Little Fuzzy
– Last Enemy

– 2BR02B

Audiobook Pop! was founded to provide a solution to the following three points of pain:
— buying audiobooks is expensive,
— Owning, renting and borrowing CDs can be a hassle,
— sifting through thousands of books in other apps is overwhelming.

Audiobook Pop! curates its content so that there is minimal decision making, ease of use and great value. Too much choice is not a good thing.

Our other audiobook apps include:
Audiobooks For Your Kids with over 40 audiobooks of classic children’s literature.
Audiobooks – Austen; a Jane Austen Anthology.
Coming in September: Audiobooks – Tales, an anthology of global fairy tales and folk tales.

Go tell your friends that Audiobooks – Sci-fi is free in iTunes on August 30 and September 1.

If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll find out which new apps are being released and you can also write to us to suggest some new themes. We listen.
